KHÁNH HÒA — The sixth Chăm Cultural Festival will take place on June 26 - 28 in Khánh Hòa Province, offering a diverse programme that highlights the traditions and contemporary life of the Chăm community.
The three-day event will feature a wide range of activities, including art performances, culinary showcases, exhibitions of traditional handicrafts, folk exchanges and ethnic sports. Together, these activities are expected to provide visitors with a closer look at the cultural identity of one of Việt Nam’s long-established ethnic groups.
The festival is also held in line with Resolution No 80-NQ/TW on the development of Vietnamese culture, issued by the Politburo, which emphasises the preservation and promotion of national cultural values.
One of the highlights of the festival will be the opening art programme titled Shimmering Colours of Chăm Culture. The performance is designed to trace the cultural journey of the Chăm people, from ancient legends to present-day life, through a combination of modern stage techniques and traditional artistic elements.
Through music, dance and visual storytelling, the programme aims to present a vivid picture of Chăm heritage while reflecting how these traditions continue to evolve in contemporary society.
Held periodically, the Chăm Cultural Festival has become an important cultural event that not only celebrates heritage but also contributes to efforts to preserve and promote traditional values. Beyond its role as a community gathering, the festival serves as a platform for cultural exchange, offering both domestic and international visitors the opportunity to explore the depth of a civilisation that has developed over more than a millennium.
For the Chăm community, the festival carries additional meaning. It is often seen as a reunion, a time for people to come together, reconnect and strengthen community bonds. It also provides an occasion for cultural pride, as traditional practices, crafts and performances are presented to a wider audience. — VNS
