HÀ NỘI — As the National Day holiday on September 2 draws near, many train routes across Việt Nam have already sold out, prompting the railway industry to ramp up services. Operators are increasing the number of trips, mobilising extra carriages and enhancing service quality to accommodate tens of thousands of passengers during this busy travel period.
With just days remaining before the holiday, popular routes for tourism and homecomings, such as Hà Nội – Đà Nẵng, Hà Nội – Lào Cai and TP Hồ Chí Minh – Nha Trang, are fully booked well in advance. This year, rail travel demand is expected to surge significantly compared to previous years, as many travellers opt for trains due to their safety, punctuality and the ability to avoid road traffic congestion.
General Director of the Railway Transport Joint Stock Company Đào Anh Tuấn said: "Currently, most of the trains serving the September 2 holiday are fully booked. We are preparing additional trains, with ticket prices comparable to those in 2024, making slight adjustments to reflect current circumstances."
Unofficial estimates suggest that Hà Nội Railway alone will welcome over 100,000 passengers this year, marking an increase from past years. Many travellers are choosing rail for its comfort, safety, and steady ticket pricing.
In anticipation of the holiday, Việt Nam Railways Corporation plans to operate 34 additional trains on major north-south routes, including Hà Nội – Lào Cai, Hà Nội – Hải Phòng and HCM City – Nha Trang.
Of particular note, three special trains will transport nearly 1,600 soldiers taking part in the National Day parade from Hà Nội to Tam Kỳ and Sài Gòn on September 3, underscoring the railway’s vital role in supporting key national events.
Mr Tuấn added, "Alongside regular services, we are enhancing offerings to meet the needs of locals and tourists alike. We are also preparing vehicles to transport armed forces and other groups supporting the celebrations, ensuring the country’s holiday is organised smoothly."
Thanks to careful preparations in vehicles, personnel, and service quality, National Day train travel this year promises to be safe, punctual, and comfortable, providing passengers with memorable journeys across the country. — VNS
