HCM City — A tea gathering among consuls general and representatives of ASEAN countries, along with HCM City officials was held on March 22 to promote cultural exchange and strengthen bonds between countries in the region.

The programme, titled “Kết nối nhân dân ASEAN (ASEAN People-to-people Connection), consisted of activities that focused on enhancing multilateral ties and promoting Vietnamese culture.

It was hosted by the HCM City Union of Friendship Organisations and the HCM City Vietnam-ASEAN Friendship Association at Duệ Tâm Trà Cultural Space in Châu Pha Commune.

Guests and officials were introduced to Vietnamese tea culture and got to experience tea ceremonies and enjoy traditional cakes.

They later paid a visit to the Vũng Tàu Museum, Tam Thắng Tower, and an áo dài (traditional Vietnamese outfit) exhibition by the famous designer Nguyễn Việt Hùng.

Traditional art performances showcasing the rich Vietnamese identity, such as bamboo flute solos and plucked zither performances, were also included in the programme.

Wiraka Moodhitaporn, Thai Consul General in HCM City, representing ASEAN Consuls General, said: “We had the opportunity to participate in many rich cultural activities. I was especially impressed by the traditional Vietnamese tea ceremony.”

Assoc Prof Phan Thị Hồng Xuân, chairwoman of the HCM City Vietnam-ASEAN Friendship Association, said “people-to-people diplomacy and cultural exchange play a crucial role in building a strong foundation for regional cooperation.”

The programme therefore provides an opportunity for ASEAN countries to enhance understanding, trust, and friendship, she added.

“This contributes to better connectivity between the people, shows respect toward cultural diversity, and deepens the bonds between the countries,” Xuân said.

The chairwoman said the programme hopes to kick-start other cultural events in the future. — VNS
