HUẾ — Along the banks of the Hương River, Huế will become a window into ASEAN’s cultural diversity this December, when an outdoor photography exhibition brings together contemporary images of the region’s people, heritage, landscapes and everyday life.

Themed ASEAN Cultural Colours, the exhibition will take place from December 11 to 25 at Nguyễn Đình Chiểu pedestrian street along the southern bank of the Hương (Perfume) River in Thuận Hóa Ward.

The exhibition is part of efforts to effectively implement the Government’s programme on promoting and communicating ASEAN. It is also expected to strengthen cultural exchange, mutual understanding, solidarity and cooperation among ASEAN communities and artists.

The exhibition will feature photographs by artists from ASEAN countries. The works will be presented as individual artistic expressions rather than as official representations of any ASEAN country or group of countries.

The images capture diverse aspects of life across ASEAN, from people, history and culture to heritage, architecture, landscapes, festivals, beliefs, customs and daily life. Works highlighting socio-economic achievements in member states will also be welcomed.

Organisers are encouraging artists to submit works with strong artistic value that can help showcase distinctive cultural identities while fostering greater understanding, interaction and cooperation among people across the ASEAN community.

Through photography, the exhibition is also expected to contribute to cultural diplomacy and expand cooperation with ASEAN diplomatic missions in Việt Nam. At the same time, it will help promote Huế as a heritage city, a festival city and a cultural and tourism destination in central Việt Nam.

Set along the Hương River, the exhibition is expected to offer residents and visitors a vibrant space to enjoy photography and discover different facets of ASEAN culture.

More broadly, the event aims to highlight the role of culture in sustainable development and international integration, using photography as a bridge connecting communities and encouraging cultural dialogue. — VNS
