HA NOI — Pop singer My
Linh goes a little bit classical with her new CD Chat Voi Mozart (Chat with
Mozart) to be released today.
The CD includes eight new
songs based on well-known classical pieces by A Vivaldi, R A Schumann and P I
Tchaikovsky, given new arrangements as well as new Vietnamese lyrics by lyricist
Duong Thu.
"I felt a lot of
emotion while recording the album’s songs, which express both classical and
pop music forms. But all the songs also contain a ‘Vietnamese’
element," said Linh.
"The influence of
classical music is limited in modern life, especially in Viet Nam. It is
considered an unpalatable form, and it hasn’t been welcomed by most young
people," admitted Thu.
"But My Linh and I,
along with Anh Quan and Huy Tuan, who arranged the songs for the CD, are fans of
classical music, so all of us wanted to share our passion with younger people.
We see Chat with Mozart as a bridge to lead them to classical music," Thu
said.
Although it seemed a near
impossible task to set Vietnamese words to the classical melodies, Thu found the
right combination. Chat with Mozart breaks new ground by combining elegant
classical music with more ebullient modern music styles.
Arrangers Anh Quan and Huy
Tuan faced challenges in orchestrating the CD because "we had to mix many
different musical styles favoured by young people, including Latin jazz,
R&B, hip-hop and funk," Tuan said.
