HÀ NỘI — Swedish jazz pianist Håkan Rydin is set to strike a new chord in Hà Nội with a series of performances from October 31 to November 2 alongside Vietnamese artists.
With over 40 years of performing across countries, Rydin stands among Sweden’s most respected jazz pianists. He was the first Swedish student to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Pedagogy and was a founding member of the legendary group Nexus, which performed more than 1,000 concerts worldwide.
He has shared the stage with world-class musicians such as Thad Jones, Pepper Adams, Etta Cameron and David Liebman, and has collaborated with Kim Parker, daughter of jazz icon Charlie Parker.
Rydin’s artistry shines through acclaimed albums including Beautiful Friendship and Tender Silhouette. He is currently a professor of Jazz Piano at the Malmö Academy of Music.
For more than 20 years, he has contributed to developing the jazz scene in Việt Nam through collaborations and training with the Jazz Faculty at the Việt Nam National Conservatory of Music.
He joins the Bảo Long Trio Band, a meeting point between Vietnamese and Swedish jazz traditions. Together, they will perform original compositions and jazz standards with fresh, intricate arrangements.
Rydin will also perform with saxophonist Hoàng An, double bassist Vinh Nguyễn and percussionist Đỗ Mai Sơn, creating a dialogue between seasoned mastery and youthful creativity where improvisation opens new horizons.
The concert on October 31 will take place from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at V-Art, 1st Floor, Ciputra Club, Bắc Từ Liêm District. Rydin’s concerts on November 1 and 2 will be held at Long Waist Jazz Club, No 5 Nguyễn Quang Bích Street, Hà Nội. — VNS
