HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese swimmers finished their sixth Asian Beach Games with a silver medal in the mixed relay 4x1,500m Open Water Swimming event in Sanya, China on April 27.

Quartet Nguyễn Huy Hoàng, Mai Trần Tuấn Anh, Võ Thị Mỹ Tiên and Nguyễn Khả Nhi came second with a time of one hour and 6.32 minutes, just 1.05 minutes behind the host country champions.

Third place went to South Korea with a time of 1:08.15.

On April 26, Hoàng and Anh took part in the men's 5km and finished second and third, respectively.

The winner of that event was Chinese athlete Zhang Ziyang, who swam the race in 53.46 minutes.

After three days of competitions, Việt Nam secured two silver and two bronze medals, surpassing its pre-tournament expectations.

Also on April 27, the athletics and dragon boat teams safely landed home after a brilliant performance in China.

The long jumpers won golds in the men's and women's categories. Meanwhile the dragon boat team took one silver and two bronzes.

With a total of two golds, three silvers and four bronzes, Việt Nam are currently sitting in fourth place in the medal tally.

China are on top with 14 golds, followed by Thailand with four and the Philippines with three.

Việt Nam still have an opportunity to win gold in the women's handball event. They will play Turkmenistan in the semi-final on April 28 at the Tianya Haijiao Venue Cluster.

As the three-time Asian champions, Việt Nam are the top candidate for the gold medal in this tournament. VNS
