HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam stormed to a 5-0 win over Singapore in their first match of the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers Group B ties on August 6 in Hà Nội.
The home side went on the offensive from the opening whistle with Lamasan Chantale dropping an easy catch in the third minute, with the Singapore custodian spared blushes after Lưu Hoàng Vân scuffed her shot.
Vân was more effective in the 15th minute, her mazy run causing havoc in the Singapore box with Nguyễn Vĩnh Thục Nghi taking advantage to side foot home the opener.
Nguyễn Thị Thùy Linh missed her opportunity to expand the lead after her effort from the indirect free-kick was blocked by a line of Singapore players on the goal line.
Coach Masahiko Okiyama asked his Vietnamese side to step up a gear after the break, and it took only three minutes to double their lead thanks to an individual effort from Y Za Lương, who finished crisply into the bottom corner.
Việt Nam were now fully in their stride, adding the third in the 50th minute after Vân produced another storming run before setting up Nguyễn Ngô Thảo Nguyên for a simple finish.
Despite their effort, Singapore still conceded further goals late on with Nguyễn Thị Thương’s mishit cross in the 86th minute looping over Chantale before Cà Thị Phượng slammed home from close range two minutes later to seal an emphatic win.
In the other match of the group, Hong Kong-China beat Kyrgyz Republic 2-1.
Hong Kong's Wei Lan thumped the ball home with a header seven minutes into the restart.
Alina Gaparova took control of the ball and drilled a low shot to have an equaliser in the 68th minute.
Substitute Wong Tsz Kiu threaded the ball through for Anke Leung, who raced clear beyond Kyrgyz Republic's last defender to slot home the winner.
The two victors will meet on August 8 where another three points may well confirm an early ticket to the Finals. — VNS
