ĐÀ NẴNG — Hoiana Shores Golf Club has been selected to host the 18th Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) golf tournament from October 28 to 31, 2027.

This marks the first time the championship will be held in Việt Nam, representing a significant milestone for Hoiana Shores and Vietnamese golf on the international stage.

The announcement was made by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation, the Masters Tournament and the R&A, the championship’s three founding partners. The event will bring together the region’s leading male amateur golfers for four days of competition on the coastal course.

Hosting the 2027 AAC builds on Hoiana Shores’ staging of the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship in 2025 and provides an opportunity to showcase central Việt Nam’s scenery, culture and hospitality to the international golf community.

“We are honoured that Hoiana Shores Golf Club has been selected to host the 2027 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, marking the first time this prestigious event will be held in Việt Nam,” said club vice president Wee Peng Siong.

“This is a proud milestone for Hoiana Shores and an opportunity to showcase the growth of golf in Việt Nam to the international community. We look forward to welcoming the region’s leading amateur golfers, delivering a memorable championship experience and introducing them to the landscapes, cultural heritage and warm hospitality of central Việt Nam.”

At the same time, the organisers also announced that New South Wales in Australia will host the tournament in November 2028.

Mark Darbon, chief executive of the R&A, said: “We are very fortunate to be able to stage the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship at some of the world’s finest courses and Hoiana Shores and New South Wales are undoubtedly in that category."

He noted that he is looking forward to taking the championship to Việt Nam for the first time and enjoying one of the world’s great emerging golf destinations, adding that the Vietnamese course will offer outstanding tests of golf for the players and will create exciting new chapters for the AAC.

Each year the field is comprised of the top male amateur golfers in the Asia-Pacific region representing the 43 organisations affiliated with the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation. The AAC champion will receive an invitation to compete in the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club as well as an exemption to the Open the following year. The runner(s)-up will also gain a place in the final qualifying round for the Open.

Notable past competitors include Hideki Matsuyama, the 2021 Masters champion and a two-time AAC winner; Cameron Smith, the 2022 Open champion; and Ryan Fox, the 2026 Open champion. Their achievements underline the championship’s role in identifying and developing golf talent across the region.

Opened in 2019, Hoiana Shores Golf Club is a links-style course set among coastal sand dunes, with sweeping views of the sea and the nearby Chàm Islands. Robert Trent Jones Jr.’s design combines the natural landscape with strategic challenges, offering a rewarding experience for golfers of varying abilities.

Located near the ancient town of Hội An, the course was ranked 13th in Golf Travel’s 'Top 100 Asian Golf Courses' in 2026 and named in 'The LINKS 100 – The World’s Top 100 Golf Courses' by LINKS Magazine in 2025. Previously, in 2022, Golf Digest recognised it as the 'Best Golf Course in Việt Nam'.

At the 2027 AAC, Hoiana Shores aims to deliver an exceptional championship and hospitality experience while helping strengthen Việt Nam’s position as a destination for international golf events and golf tourism. — VNS
