VĨNH LONG — The Cửu Long (Mekong Delta) province of Vĩnh Long will focus on developing new tourism products by exploiting cultural traditions and its potential for marine tourism to boost tourism, according to the provincial People’s Committee.
After its administrative merger with Bến Tre and Trà Vinh provinces, Vĩnh Long Province now has a coastline of more than 130 kilometres as well as diverse tourism resources such as mangrove forests, islets on the Tiền and Hậu rivers, and a number of historical relics, ancient architecture, cultural heritage, and pagodas.
It will strengthen tourism linkages and cooperation with other localities nationwide, especially with HCM City and other localities in the Mekong Delta.
It will also promote investment attraction in a number of key projects, including Cái Gà Islet resort, Khmer Cultural - Tourism Village and Ao Bà Om (Bà Om Pond) Cultural and Tourism resort.
Dương Hoàng Sum, director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the province has huge potential for developing eco-tourism, community tourism and cultural tourism.
It will build an image as a “three-in-one” destination with a blend of the characteristics of the river, traditional Khmer culture and the sea.
The department will advise the provincial People’s Committee to issue the Tourism Development Strategy for the period 2025 – 2030 and preferential policies to attract investment in tourism infrastructure and facilities, he said.
The province welcomed nearly 6 million visitors in the first seven months of the year, including more than 876,000 international visitors.
Tourism revenue was estimated at more than VNĐ5 trillion (US$189.5 million) during the period. — VNS
